Walking in South Tyrol
Walks and promenades in Merano and Environs
The most beautiful way to get to know South Tyrol/Südtirol is by simply taking a long walk. The well-marked Sissiweg trail follows the footsteps of the Empress Elisabeth of Austria from the center of Merano/Meran to her former residence at Trauttmansdorff Castle.
Along the promenades of the city, lined with lush vegetation, the spa town can be explored at leisure. Above the town, lies the sunny Tappeinerweg trail, a 19th century landscaped botanical trail with over 400 labeled tree and shrub specimens.

The Meraner Waalrunde Circuit Trail is perfect for walking throughout the year, and traverses across the low mountains. By using the local cable cars, hikers can explore the trails at high altitudes and enjoy impressive views of the South Tyrolean mountains.
